We spoke to Darrell Horcher about his return to the UFC on Saturday

On Saturday, Darrell Horcher will return to the UFC for the first time since being involved in a life threatening motorcycle accident on May 26, 2016. Less than a year after doctors told him he would never fight again, Horcher will enter the octagon to face Devin Powell at UFC Fight Night 112.

I had the pleasure of speaking Darrell today about his upcoming bout. After such a devastating accident, I wanted to know what it meant for him to return to the UFC. “It means the world to me to be able to have beaten the odds in recuperating to a normal functional state and to be able to make my return as a professional mixed martial artist,” he said.

In fact, Horcher sees his accident, recovery and rehab as a major advantage in his upcoming fight. “My biggest advantage is that mentally, I can’t be broken. The whole thing as made me mentally strong beyond belief,” he explained. “I look at it like, ‘what can he possibly do to me that could be anywhere near what I’m coming back from?

We look forward to having Darrell on The Point After Show’s podcast in the coming weeks.

For those of you who are wondering just what Darrell Horscher had to come back from, Fox Sports recently detailed it in an article.

FoxSports.com:Once he arrived, doctors began assessing the damage done to his body from the motorcycle crash after stabilizing him. Horcher recounted all the injuries he suffered from that fateful day.

  • Kidney laceration
  • Liver laceration
  • Torn ACL’s (anterior cruciate ligament) both knees
  • Torn PCL’s (posterior cruciate ligament) in both knees
  • MCL (medial collateral ligament) injury in left knee and LCL (lateral collateral ligament) replacement in right knee
  • Bone graft on his right knee cap
  • Broken arm with compound fracture
  • Road rash

Despite Pennsylvania not requiring motorcyclists to wear helmet, Horcher was wearing his that day or he has no doubt that he probably wouldn’t have survived.”

Good luck, Darrell Horcher, we’re all rooting for you!
