Ray Lewis, Mario Batali and Rohan Marley (Bob’s son) share a meal

The newest show to hit the VICELAND airwaves features one of the world’s greatest chefs, Mario Batali. The produces have fused a talk show and cooking show, but they haven’t used the corny daytime television format. There’s no doubt that Batali is being real, because the show is awkward at times, but the show manages to make it work and get real reactions form his guests.

Apparently, the show has been available on the Munchies Youtube channel for awhile, but it just hit the cable tonight. The premier episode features long time friends, Ray Lewis and Rohan Marley. For those of you who didn’t know, Rohan is the son of the legendary Bob Marley. He also played college football for the University of Miami and was the roommate of Ray Lewis.

I found the interactions between Lewis and Marley extremely interesting. Marley is absolutely the dominate figure in the relationship, it’s an interesting look into the socialization of an NFL superstar. When we think of Ray Lewis, we think of the hyper-agressive NFL linebacker, but the show unveils  his subdued side. I also find it interesting that Lewis legitimately doesn’t curse. When Bartali tries to cheers, saying “Ching, Ching Mother Fuckers,” Lewis refuses, to the chagrin do Marley.

You can watch the entire episode on Youtube via the Munchies channel.

If’ you’re not on the VICELAND train yet, it’s time to get on board. VICE is the greatest media company, in my humble opinion, on the planet. They’re completely changing the game and constantly pushing boundaries with their channel, VICELAND. If it wasn’t for VICELAND, it would likely have cancelled my cable subscription months ago. Their programing is real, raw and doesn’t dumb itself down for mass consumption.

They have managed to stay true to their brand, producing shows that introduce people to fringe society, non-cultural norms and the marijuana culture. Yet, they’ve presented their subject matter in a way that is can be consumed by the laymen. I watched a documentary on medical marijuana and it’s benefits for autism with my mother, and she truly found it interesting.
