Was I wrong here? Is It OKAY to vandalize someone’s property?

Yesterday, I came home to a flyer scotched taped to my front door. You heard me correctly, SCOTCH TAPED. Now, our front door is glass and it was a really warm day. So, the tape had time to get hot and the adhesive got extremely sticky, all the while it formed an excessively strong bond to my front door. Now, anyone who has ever tried to remove scotch tape from glass knows that it’s one of the most frustrating things in the world. So, after a 9 hour work day, I got to spend 15 minutes pealing scotch tape off my front door. Initiate foul mood.

So, I tossed up a picture of the situation on Facebook, because that’s what we social media gurus do. I sure as hell didn’t expect to get such a wild the reaction. The worst part? The social media hoard overwhelmingly was on #TeamTapeGuy.

Now, before we get into this. I want to clearly state my stance on this.

  1. I’m not knocking this kid for trying to be an entrepreneur. I love the hustle, good for him. I’m knocking the way he went about it.
  2. I don’t understand how anyone thinks that is OKAY to use scotch tape to attach something something to someone else’s property.
  3. Regardless of what anyone says. It has got to be illegal to go onto private property and leave a flyer taped to their front door.

SmallBusiness.Chron.com: “Don’t attempt to distribute advertising flyers on private property without permission from the property owner.”

That being said, although it’s illegal, but I don’t really care about the flyer being on my property. I care about the fact that tape was placed onto something I own, without my permission. That is technically called vandalism. Although someone may not think it’s a big deal, they can’t change the definition.

Also, I’m aware that I have a serious problem and refuse to let people have the last word and/or win arguments.

I don’t actually see it as a problem though, because I’m generally right.

Note: I’ve edited the event as to keep it interesting for you. There was a ton of nonsense that’s not relevant and didn’t need to be included. Below is what transpired, you can be the judge…

Of course, enter The Fantasy Football Advantage, Pauly to sir the pot.

Enter the girl with a question emoji. This is where it all started to go south for your boy, Cavi.

Please note the 104 replies god damn replies. What can I say? If you’re going to light a Facebook fire, you might as well make it an inferno.

Petty? Oh, you thought that was petty? Wait until I write a blog about it.

You can hate me now. (Great song. Click here to listen.)

Now, I want to note that I hold no hard feeling against “girl with a question emoji.” My wife was in her wedding. We just don’t see eye to eye on this situation (or most, it seems).

At this point, I’m struggling to find any justification behind someone putting tape on my front door.  Yes, I could take a razor blade and a little cleaner and go about my day. But, why should my day be interrupted by such nonsense.

I’m just going to leave this here…

Criminal.FindLaw.com: “Vandalism is an offense that occurs when a person destroys or defaces someone else’s property without permission.”

I used to be a concert promoter. So, the assumption would be that I unlawfully put posters up. Fake news. Never happened.

This is about the point that I decided to continue feeding into this nonsense and write a blog about the situation.

So, yes, I do consider my time valuable. If I’m awake, I’d like to be making money or working towards making money. You’re reading this blog right now. So, thank you, I made money the minute you clicked on this page.

You see, those 15 minutes that it took me to clean the tape off my front door? I could have been writing a different blog. Instead, I was able to spin this situation into content for this blog. I suppose that I should actually THANK the kid that taped that shit to my door.

Enter JAC.

JAC was a big player in this Facebook feud; you’re a real hero. Stay golden, Pony Boy.

I mean, that one was almost too easy.

Enter tattoo parlor owner…

Still trying to figure out why it’s wrong for my to be mad. I’m swimming in a sea of nuance.

Apparently self accountability (for the kid that put the tape on my door) just doesn’t exist and I have this inherent necessity to be understanding about someone trespassing on my property and then vandalizing it.

Well, I’m big on self awareness. So, I stay woke on myself and am completely aware that my last comment seemed a little douche-bag-esque. But, look at the comment that it was in response to. Warranted.

Enter Dave, another real American hero. Dave’s one of my favorite people on social media, because he’s blunt honest and extremely bipartisan.

Please refer to Pop’s comment above. As a former graphic designer, I would like to note that the flyer itself makes me want to bang my head against a wall.

Fun fact: In Pennsylvania, it’s considered solicitation, unless you adhere to the PA Solicitation Act. That can be found here. The sign is just a deterrent.

Enter Paul, The Fantasy Football Advantage again to stir the pot…

Paul’s comment got cut off, but he said that he hopes the kid starts selling meth in my neighborhood instead, because I’m a scrooge. Good call back by Paul, utilize the picture of Scrooge a few comments later. That’s in the comedy book, page 1. I have to give props where they’re deserved. Maybe wishing meth upon my neighborhood was a bit harsh though?

P.S. Still, no one accepts how valuable 15 is to me. Am I the only one that works 40 hours a week, at my 9-5 and then another 40 on my own projects? Everyone wants to talk about this kids hustle. Why should his hustle be allowed to affect mine? It caused it to grind to a halt for 15 minutes.

So, this has now devolved into how if I called the cops, it would ruin this kids life. Not a big “call the cops guy,” so it should be noted that I never did.

Then, it took a really weird turn and became a personal “attack” on me. Well, I maybe not an attack… but a weird assertion that my friends and I was part of a weird NEPA illuminati.

Quick Cavi work history:

  •  At age 15, I got working papers and took at job at Burger King. During this time, I also worked summers hauling concrete for my uncle’s pool company.
  • Age 18-22 I started promoting concerts, managing bands  and used that money to put myself through college.
  • Age 18-21 I worked summers at a the YMCA Daycamp.
  • Age 19-22 I spent almost every weekend of college filming weddings.
  • Age 21-22 I worked at a camp ground in Poconos cleaning cabins and checking people in.
  • Age 19-22 I was the editor of the campus the campus newspaper, which I was paid for, but prevented me form ever sleeping.
  • Age 19-22 I worked in the equipment room 2 days a week through college checking equipment in and out for my major.
  • Age 19-Present I’ve done freelance graphic design.
  • Age 22-24 At age 22, I opened a music venue with two other partners, with asking anyone for a dime or to co-sign for anything.
  • Age 24-28 I moved to Pine Grove, Pennsylvania and worked in the marking department for one of the worlds leading door and window manufacturers.
  • Age 29 – Present I work is the higher education field.

Never, in my life have I asked anyone for anything in terms of employment, except a reference. So, I took that comment to heart. Sorry for the rant. Just to be clear, I’ve earned everything I have in life. My house, my cars, my businesses… no one is going to insinuate different. I’ve had no favors; no co-signers; no gifts; no inheritance; nothing.

P.S. Did I mention that Dave is a hero?

Enter Chris that was in the ZBT fraternity at my college…

Am I the only one that thinks it’s absolute lunacy that no one can grasp that I don’t have a problem with the kid’s hustle? I don’t have a problem with him wanting to clean cars and make money. I only have a problem with him putting scotch tape on my door.

I’m not sure why Chris ZBT thinks educating this kid is my responsibility. The other Chris is 100% correct about the paint; heads would have rolled. Razzberry Malone just named this whole situation. We’ll alway remember #TapeGate 2017.

I don’t know Adam. So, screw you, Adam. I’m very aware of that fact. It was outlined numerous times above.

Thank you to JJP for being a reasonable person in an ocean of unreasonable people.

I think this all goes back to self accountability. I blame this entire thread on participation trophies. We talked about it on the podcast last week. What I was told is that I should support this kid, simply because he wants to do something. Have our expectations fallen so low as a society, that we don’t care about if someone does something right? We’re just happy that they’re actually doing SOMETHING?  Listen to our podcast about it below…

Because this kid was “trying to get ahead,” he was instantly in the right. However, because I didn’t believe it was right, that I should have to use my time to clean up a mess. I become the bad guy.

Well, thank you for reading. If you think this blog was petty, you might be right. But, you also read it and therefore have helped better the situation or The Point After Show. If you’re awesome, you’ll click on an ad when you’re leaving.

Shamelessly, thank you.
