St. Louis fined $2 million

Earlier this week, the St. Louis Cardinals were fined $2 million and ordered to give away two draft picks to the Houston Astros for a hacking incident involving former team scouting director, Chris Correa. Correa is said to have illegally hacked into the Houston Astros database to obtain access to restricted scouting analytics, retrieve top prospect reporting data, and to leak nude photos of Jeff Bagwell.

Federer Defeats Nadal

In a back-and-forth finals match, Roger Federer defeated Rafael Nadal in the men’s Australian Open last weekend. Overtaking Nadal in the last set 6 to 3, the 35 year-old Federer extended his grand slam record by winning his 18th title. When reporters asked before the match if he had any doubts heading into the final, Federer replied, “Nope. None-Nadal!”

Fisher Gets Robbed

The home of former Los Angeles Lakers’ star, Derek Fisher, was burglarized on Tuesday morning. Among the items stolen were the five NBA Championship rings won during Fisher’s tenure with the Lakers. No arrests have yet been made regarding the break-in; however, authorities say they have a lead on the perpetrator and released this photo of the lurking suspect:

Super Bowl 51

And finally, sports fans everywhere are gearing up for Super Bowl 51 set to take place on Sunday evening at the NRG Stadium in Houston. Several celebrity recording artists were questioned this week as to what they most look forward to on Super Bowl Sunday. Country star Carrie Underwood said, “The halftime show”. Pop R&B singer Rihanna said, “The commercials.” And soul singer Adele said, “The cake.”
