Pat McAfee Retires from the NFL, Joins Barstool Sports

Pat McAfee retires from the NFL and joins Barstoool. This is not #FakeNews, I repeat, not fake news.

Welcome to the club, Pat. What’s up? How’s it feel to be our equal as a sports blogger? Oh, wait, you still earned millions of dollars for kicking a ball? Right… Right. Glad to have you in the club anyway.

Tonight, on Barstool Sports’ live Comedy Central special, it was announced that Pat McAfee was retiring from the NFL and joining Barstool Sports as a blogger. McAfee is a noted stand up comedian and known to party rock with the best of them, which has endeared him to football fans for years.

The move comes as a surprise, as McAfeee was on his way to statistically becoming one of the greatest punters of all time. Many label him as the best punter in the NFL right now. Which, is fairness is like being the “best” Nickleback song. It’s technically the best, but only a special kind of weirdo cares. Others thought it was a joke, sketch or publicity stunt. But, confirmations have come in that it’s true.

McAfee remarked on the after show that he was “sick of rehabbing” and spoke about the many surgeries he’s undergone. “I’ve played soccer and kicked a ball my whole life, and I’m a big guy. My knees are shot,” he said. Even members of the Barstool staff seemed surprised at was taking place, but it appears the deal had been in the works for months. McAfee is a noted longtime collaborator and fan of the website. He’s also been very lose with his tongue on twitter the last few months.

According to the IndieStar.com McAfee was due nearly $6 million over the next two seasons on the final years of the five-year, $14.5 million contract he signed with the Colts in 2014. Talk about “the People’s Punter.” McAfee walking away from $6 million and in reality, probably paying back some money he’s already received to pursue his comedy dream. While details won’t be made public, I think it’s safe to say that Barstool, as big as it is, won’t be ponying up more than $100k a year (in reality probably more like $75k). But, I could be completely off there.

Here’s to you Pat. Welcome to the fold. Glad to be a fellow blogger in arms.
