The Sports News Report

Here are this week’s top sports news stories in, The Sports News Report.

Is Sammy Sosa a God?

Former Chicago Cubs’ slugger, Sammy Sosa, was interviewed this week by sports writer, Chuck Wasserstrom. Sosa, who has been treated poorly by Cubs’ fans since his historic home run battles with Mark McGwire, was asked about performance enhancing drug (PED) usage during the interview. Sosa denied the allegations by comparing himself to the Christian Lord, saying, “It’s like Jesus Christ when he came to Jerusalem. Everybody thought he was a witch – but he was our savior.” Sosa’s comparison isn’t the only similarity between the two. Legend has it that Christ himself also couldn’t hit a curveball to save his life.

Lakers’ President Buss fires brother, GM

On Tuesday this week, Los Angeles Lakers’ President, Jeanie Buss, finally had enough of her brother, Jim Buss, and General Manager, Mitch Kupchak. Buss fired Kupchak and relieved Jim of all basketball involvement. Jeanie expressed this overdo decision to fans, stating, “It was time for a change. Jim and Mitch have been a virus to the organization for many years – we needed to get rid of that virus.” Coincidentally, Buss later appointed Magic Johnson as President of Basketball Operations.

Bartolo Colon dazzles

Despite his age, 43, and 285-pound frame, Bartolo Colon continues to be one of MLB’s best fielding pitchers. Constantly criticized for his weight, Colon showed off his talents while taking infield practice during the Atlanta Braves’ spring training camp this week. The husky veteran awed teammates with his dazzling skills, including behind-the-back catches, on target throws, and scooping up grounders, all while eating bacon-wrapped meatloaf.

Ronda Rousey does jail time

And on Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that female MMA fighter, Ronda Rousey, might be taking a break from the octagon to focus on her acting career. Rousey will play a fictional prison inmate on the NBC drama, “Blindspot.” Critics are skeptical of Rousey’s acting ability and she was asked if she thinks she can make it as a Hollywood actress. A determined Rousey responded, “I fooled everyone into thinking I was a good fighter, didn’t I?”
