The Grambling State Standout

Let’s be honest, when you think of universities that produce NFL prospects, you don’t think of Grambling State. The most popular star to ever come from this small school in Louisiana was a guy by the name of Doug Williams. You know, SuperBowl XXII MVP. That was until now. Grambling State will soon be put back on the map.  Chad Williams is a wide receiver currently flying under some radars, but is high above most in talent. Remember the name!

The Hometown Boy

Chad Williams grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and attended Madison Prep high school. Much like Terrell Pryor, in high school Williams played quarterback. Unfortunely, playing for a small charter school like Madison Prep, Williams got very little love from FBS schools. He committed to Grambling and decided to make the switch to wide receiver.  He became a starter for the Tigers midway through his freshman year. Last season, during his senior year he totaled 90 catches, 1337 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns to lead the SWAC in all three categories.

At 6’2″, 205 pounds, he has great size and strength. Williams is a great leaper to get up and steal the ball away from defenders. Although he is not you quintessential speedster, all of his physical abilities certainly make up for it.

Under Valued

According to the latest polls, Williams may not go before round 5 in this years draft. To me, if he were to go this late, whoever grabs this guy may have the steal of the draft. Looking at his practice film from this years Senior Bowl, this dude catches everything.

I’m excited to see what he will do at the next level, and anticipate him being a future fantasy football and NFL star.
