3 Reasons Garoppolo Will Stay in New England

Why Not Garoppolo?

The latest report out of New England is that the Patriots will not be trading Jimmy Garoppolo. At least not for the offers they have been getting. Mike Reiss of ESPN reported there’s still a possibility New England may change their mind, but it comes with a price. According to Reiss, the Patriots would consider a change of heart if a team offered its 2017 first-round draft pick plus a conditional future first-round draft pick. What that means to me is that New England is looking for the dumbest GM in the league to give up 1st round picks for “probably nothing”.

Why do I say “probably nothing”? Well, first off what does Jimmy Garoppolo have on his resume? Minimal game film, and decent numbers on one of the best dynasties in sports. This sounds extremely familiar. Let’s analyze Garoppolo’s numbers before I give my reasons.

First thing I see as a warning sign this guy may never be a franchise type quarterback is the college he came from. Jimmy came out of Eastern Illinois. Name one quarterback to ever start in the NFL from this school. You can’t. Let’s go a step further and look at his body of work in the NFL.  Through 3 years in the league, Jimmy has played in just 17 games. In those 17 games he has only attempted 94 passes while putting up a whopping 690 yards and 5 touchdowns. So I ask you again, what in the hell body of work warrants 2 potential 1st round picks for this guy?

There are plenty of backup quarterbacks in this league that deserve the chance to lead a team. Derrick Anderson and AJ McCarron are two that come to mind right away.

The NFL’s Got 99 Problems, and Belechick is 1

There are 3 reasons why teams should not give up any draft picks to get Garopollo. There are 3 reasons why Garoppolo should not receive a big money contract from any team.

Ready?

# 1: Matt Cassel

# 2: Brian Hoyer

# 3: Ryan Mallett

Enough said. Thanks but no thanks Mr. Belichick!
