WGC-Mexico Championship Fantasy Golf

The first World Golf Championship tournament of the season, WGC-Mexico, will begin its new seven-year contract at Club de Golf Chapultepec in Naucalpan, Mexico. Previously the WGC-Cadillac Championship held at Trump National Doral’s Blue Monster course, the WGC field consists of top players in the Official World Golf Ranking along with top money earners and orders of merit from the six main professional golf tours. Let’s see what the WGC-Mexico Championship has in store for fantasy golf.

Honda Classic winner, Rickie Fowler, was listed at #18 in the overall fantasy rankings we provided last week. Here are other notable finishes from our Top 20 at last week’s Honda Classic:

Rank      Player                                   Finish

1              B. Steele                                T14

3              Z. Johnson                           T27

4              L. Glover                               T21

6              S. Garcia                               T14

8              K. Kisner                              T48

9              F. Molinari                           T14

10           E. Grillo                                 T43

12           R. Henley                              T43

13           P. Casey                                T11

14           G. Woodland                        T2

16           C. Howell III                         T52

18           R. Fowler                              1 (Won)

20           B. Horschel                          T4

Four out of the five undervalued plays we suggested at the Honda Classic finished 27th or better:

  • J. Herman – Finished T27 with a DK value of $6,600
  • B. Stuard – Finished T27 with a DK value of $6,900
  • J. Vegas – Finished T4 with a DK value of $7,100
  • S. O’Hair – Finished T11 with a DK value of $7,500

Course history is a strong consideration factor when it comes to player performance and choosing a successful fantasy golf lineup. This week is different. The WGC-Mexico is new territory for the field. Players with above average ball striking and shot-shaping ability will get a bump in rankings. Also, keep in mind the course is nearly 7,800 feet above sea level, 50% higher than the “Mile High City” of Denver, CO. This could have a big impact on distance control.

Below are the PAS DFS rankings for the WGC-Mexico Championship. The rankings are derived from twenty different year-to-date player statistics. The top five weighted stats for this event can be found at the bottom. Player salaries are based off of DraftKings.com.
