Fantasy Golf Rankings | WGC – Mexico Championship

This week’s WGC-Mexico Championship takes place just outside Mexico City at Club de Golf Chapultepec. The no-cut 64 player event will showcase the cream of the crop of the PGA Tour, along with many Euro and Asia Tour golfers. Check out the breakdown of the formulas Taylor @Sgrignoli uses to develop weekly projections, and this week’s top 25 fantasy golf rankings for WGC-Mexico.

Rankings model breakdown

Taylor and I discuss which statistical categories we feel are most important for the week’s tournament then weight those stats accordingly.

The “Course Stats Rank” incorporates a wide range of player statistics, each individually weighted. This range includes the past 4, 8, 12, 24, 50 and 100 rounds played.

This week’s weighted course statistics for the WGC – Mexico Championship include:

  • Strokes Gained: Approach
  • Strokes Gained: Tee to Green
  • Birdie or Better Gained
  • Strokes Gained: Ball Striking
  • Three-Putt Avoidance
  • Strokes Gained: Par 5

Current Form Rank” is derived from the average number of Strokes Gained: Total per tournament played this season.
Course History Rank” is derived from the average number of Strokes Gained: Total per year played at this event/course. *Several players may not have course history so their course history weight percentage has been shifted to current form.
The newly added “Prestige Rank” column was back-tested and has consistently shown positive results. “Prestige Rank” is derived from a combination of current Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and Vegas odds to win the week’s event.
The “PAS Power Index” is generated by calculating and combining the categories mentioned above: course stats (weighted at 45%), *NEW* current form (weighted at 30%), course history (weighted at 10%) and *NEW” prestige rank (weighted at 15%).
