The father of Enes Kanter has been arrested by the Turkish government

Last week, we reported that Enes Kanter had been labeled a terrorist by the Turkish government. The situation has escalated and Kanter’s father has been taken into custody by government forces, after the family’s home in Turkey was raided.

Enes Kanter:”He may get tortured for simply being my family member.”

Man, what a weight to have on your shoulders. Kanter’s father was likely raided because last weeks story was seen as an embarrassment to the Turkish government. It didn’t exactly paint the Turkish government in the most positive light. Now, the poor guy finds himself literally stuck in America, because his passport has been revoked. While, on the other side of the world, his father is possibly being tortured. A completely helpless situation.

It’s days like today that I’m glad that we live in America, where we can speak our minds and stand up to tyranny, without the fear of persecution. Home of the free, because of the brave, baby.

Thank God, that as Americans we live under the rule of a democratically elected president. Oh, so does Turkey? It just turns out that their president refuses to give up power. At least our president has would never persecute a celebrity or athlete for speaking out against him. As the most powerful man in world, he would understand that everyone deserves the right to speak freely and even if he doesn’t agree with it, it is his job to defend it. Right? Oh…

Enes Kanter has also repeated stated that he and his family are simply peacefully expressing their beliefs through a non-violent protest movement. I know that our president understands how inherently valuable peaceful assembly is to the American populous. Right? Oh…

USAToday.com:Kanter, who has returned to the U.S. after his passport fiasco, released a statement on his website Friday afternoon claiming that police raided his home in Istanbul and arrested his father “because of my outspoken criticism of the ruling party” in Turkey.

“He may get tortured for simply being my family member,” Kanter wrote.

According to Turkey’s Anadolu news agency, Kanter’s father, Mehmet, who publicly disowned his son last year for his outspoken political beliefs, was detained in his home for an investigation undertaken by a prosecutor’s office in northwestern Turkey and is being sent to another province for questioning.

Anadolu does not specify the scope of the investigation, but Dogan news agency reports it is part of an investigation into connections to U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who the Turkish government blames for last summer’s failed attempt to try and overthrow Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish government considers Gulen’s movement a terror organization. Gulen has denied all allegations of involvement in the coup attempt.”
