Jermyn’s Tony Cerminaro Sets Boston Marathon Record in his 80’s

We’re a few (ok more than a few) days late on this story. But, it’s been a busy week over here at The Point After Show. We’ve all got day jobs. So, unless you folks start clicking on those ads you see A LOT more, we’re still doing the 9 to 5 grind. Anyway, we were blown away to hear that Jermyn’s own, Tony Cerminaro set a record at the Boston Marathon!

P.S. Tony Cerminaro is 80 years old!

As a matter of fact, Tony has also won his age group in the Boston Marathon’s during his 60’s, 70’s and now 80’s. How about this fun fact… Tony didn’t start running marathons until he turned 50 years old. Think about that, he STARTED running marathons at age 50. So, what you’re telling me is, I’ve still time. Tony is 80 and running marathons. I’m 30 (okay, 31) and get winded getting a beer from the refrigerator.

He also set a record this week. Tony’s now the only runner to ever win his age group at the Boston Marathon in his 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. In an interview with WNEP, he credits “his wife’s good cooking for his youthfulness.” A child of NEPA, I can attest that all of those Italian grandmothers are always cooking up great meals.

We talked about Tony briefly on last week’s podcast. Along with other locals that ran the Marathon.

Tony Cerminaro plans to run in the Boston Marathon again next year.

If you’ve got time, I’d also check out this awesome documentary on Tony.
