Super Bowl MVP, Brady or White?
After a historic comeback victory Sunday night, the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons in overtime of Super Bowl 51. The media has been buzzing all week about Tom Brady being rewarded MVP of the game. Many believe Patriot’s running back, James White, should have received the honor. When asked how he felt upon hearing the news that Brady won the MVP award, White quietly responded, “Completely deflated.”
Baylor coach fired
On Monday, Baylor announced the firing of assistant strength and conditioning football coach, Brandon Washington, after an arrest last weekend for attempting to solicit a prostitute. Washington was arrested at a Texas hotel as part of a prostitution sting. I find this situation to be rather ironic. After all the embarrassment and anguish Washington caused from this ordeal, he didn’t even get to bail-her.
Rickey Henderson Field
The Oakland Athletics revealed Monday that its park, the Oakland Coliseum, will be changing its name to Rickey Henderson Field in honor of the Hall of Famer. Henderson holds numerous MLB career records, including most stolen bases (1,406) and most runs scored (2,295). Team president, Dave Kaval, said the idea was to give tribute to a hometown hero who all Oakland residents love and adore. The runner-up to Rickey Henderson Field? Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper Stadium.
High schooler scores 92 points in game
LaMelo Ball, a high school sophomore from Chino Hills, CA, scored 92 points in a regulation 32-minute basketball game Tuesday night. Ball, who has already committed to play for the UCLA Bruins, scored 41 of his 92 points in the fourth quarter. “I wanted to beat Wilt Chamberlain,” Ball said, “he had 100 points in a game.” In a further effort to beat another Chamberlain record, Ball celebrated after the game by attempting to have sex with over 20,000 women.
Costas passes Olympic hosting torch to Tirico
And finally this week, after serving as the prime-time Olympic host since 1992, NBC announced Thursday that Bob Costas will step down and hand the reign over to Mike Tirico. Tirico will begin his new hosting duties at next year’s Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. So, if you thought watching the cross-country skiing sucked before…
